I remember when I fell in love...
It was a Saturday in November 1998 I believe. My dad came home from work and said I got free tickets to a hockey game want to come? I said ok, and called my best friend at the time Sarah and we headed to a hockey game...who knew it would change my life. Ya see my dad was never one that was into sports...those who know me well know why. Those who don't, well, don't worry about it. My Uncle was a sports journalist so his kids were VERY athletic and into every sport imaginable. I remember going down into their basement and my cousins Joe and Dan would be sitting on the couch watching the Cyclones on tv. It was fuzzy reception but I remember being intrigued...flash to the day of my first hockey game. Sarah and I went to see the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. Hockey was HUGE in Cincinnati and doing really well. We managed to support 2 teams. Anyway as we're walking into the game I remember being so excited and not knowing what to expect. We handed our tickets to the guy at the door and he handed us a Duck call. Yeah that's right a Duck call that I still have. I was so excited. When we got there, we were sitting towards the top right on the aisle. I cheered so loud every time we touched the puck. And, when we scored it was all about the Duck call. We had a lead and one of the guys from the other team decided to drop the gloves. I was amazed...not only can these guys ice skate and have some stick in their hand and move a puck along on the ice...they can hit each other. Our guy lost the fight, and then the trash talking started. A boy next to us started saying oh you're team sucks and all this stuff...I lost it...it may have been my first game but these were my boys and you don't mess with them. I started trash talking right back to him, I was about to get into a fight when my dad said it was time to go. We had won the game. That was my last hockey game until I decided to go and see the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks again. It was amazing to say the least. It was the year of the lockout we had guys like Joffrey Lupul, Shane O'Brien, Ilya Bryzgalov, Stanislav Chistov, Dustin Penner, Ryan Getzlaf, Kurtis Foster, Chris Kunitz, and Michael Holmqvist. We were totally unstoppable. It was unbelievable. We made it to the playoffs and I was there EVERY game. Shane O'Brien racked up 319 penalty minutes. Seeing this guy was so amazing. I started learning everything about the sport I could. I remember our final playoff game...we ended up losing the series...I was introduced to a little guy who played on the Milwaukee Admirals named Jordin Tootoo. He dropped the gloves with O'Brien and a hatred was born. Oddly enough my first NHL game was seeing the Nashville Predators play the Detroit Red Wings...and once again I had to see Jordin Tootoo act like an idiot. About a month after my first NHL game I took my best friend to Columbus to see the Blue Jackets and I found my true love for a team. They stole my heart away...all of them from that first game. Seeing Shelley drop the gloves with somebody, to Fedorov and his still amazing puck moving skills, to Foote and his grit, all of them made me fall in love. Now, I am a full blown Blue Jackets fan...although I still hold a special spot in my heart for the Anaheim Ducks because they have most of the team that made me fall in love with hockey.

I hate the Dallas Stars.
Alright I hate to keep bringing up his name and as much as I can't stand him as a player...I feel like I need to stick up for him. I found this. It breaks down the hit that Jordin Tootoo laid on Modano and then Robidas. You know what Dallas is quickly becoming my least favorite team. I'm getting all kinds of worked up about this organization.

Free Tootoo!!
Alright I want to make it clear what I am not. I am not a Dallas Stars fan. I am not a Nashville Predators fan. I am not a Jordin Tootoo fan by any stretch of the imagination. And, I am not a Mike Modano fan. Now, that that’s out of the way, Mike Modano is now the American with the most goals in the NHL. He accomplished this at the Nashville Arena where they lost to the Predators 3-2. (He had both of the goals) For those of you who have never been to a game in Nashville let me fill you in on some things. Their fans are absolutely brutal. I have gone in there in Red Wings attire and have been brought to tears. At the Red Wings game they called Chris Chelios a sissy, they told me it’d be a good idea to take off my Red Wings attire, and they screamed MacDonald (the goalie at the time) you suck. Now, that’s just the tip of the ice burg with these fans. There is so much more going on there than that…but you get an idea of what their fans are like. And, like any NHL team they have their fan favorites. They love their goalies, and they adore Jordin Tootoo.
Now, let me tell you what happened that night. Jordin Tootoo like he always does had big hits. Hits on everybody. He doesn’t play favorites. Tootoo hit Modano rather hard and quickly turned around because he knows you don’t hit Modano and not have a guy going after you. So Stephane Robidas charged Jordin Tootoo and he looked in the video like he was about to rip Tootoo’s head off, when bam Jordin Tootoo hit Robidas and knocked him out. Now after this Jordin Tootoo looks down and then gets a slash to the back courtesy of Mike Modano. Now, hockey is a violent sport. Everyone knows that but in lieu of recent events with Chris Simon using his hockey stick like a baseball bat…everyone knows you don’t use your stick as a weapon. What Modano did with his stick was wrong. He could have seriously injured Jordin Tootoo…and he got nothing. I am sick of the NHL punishing the NHL “bad boys” and the “golden boys” get nothing. Now, do I agree with the Tootoo suspension? No. I think he was defending himself and doing what Jordin Tootoo does. But, if he got suspended for protecting himself, then Mike Modano should have gotten something for hitting him with his stick.
Ok so let me tell you what happened after this incident. Mike Modano became the American with the most goals….and he got booed. Everyone in the arena saw what he did to Tootoo and they didn’t appreciate it. Then you have the President of the Dallas Stars complaining to the media that it wasn’t announced that Modano broke the record. Well let me be honest here, the fans in Nashville don’t care about Modano. They care about their team and they care about their team winning. Had it been announced about Modano he would have received more boo’s than he had already heard. I am not trying to take away anything from Modano because it was quite the accomplishment. However, after what he did to Tootoo I don’t think that the fans cared about anything that was going on with him.

Holy crap!
Go Jackets GO!!! Well at least we beat the Ducks...in our little California road trip we managed a shootout win over the league leading Anaheim Ducks, and shutout with the San Jose Sharks, and a 5-3 loss to the LA Kings which was a pretty ridiculous game which I really don't care too much about except for the fact that all of our guys were going down like flies! We had Klesla get driven into the boards by Dustin Brown then when Svitov went after him he got 19 minutes of penalties. Then we had Rick Nash get hit in the face with a puck, and then we had Gilbert Brule get hit with a puck. It was quite tragic. Then with the game in San Jose I don't particularly want to talk about it was our 16th time getting shut out in the season and we set a record. It was so horrible we played harder than them and we worked hard but they got the lucky bounces...I just can't believe it. As far as the game with the Ducks well we have basically rocked them every game we have played them so far this season. It was an amazing way to start our road trip but it all went to crap. Anyway, we are meeting the Chicago Blackhawks for the battle of who's going to end up being worse in the Central Division....I really can't wait til next season...it's our year. Alright I gotta run! Goodnight all.
AND.....with all that's going on in the world of Jordin Tootoo the man that I hate the most in the National Hockey League I am going to stand up for him...if he does get suspended then Mike Modano should also...I do agree that Tootoo shouldn't have hit that guy...but Modano with the stick I do believe that Chris Simon just got 25 games for using his stick as a weapon and that is exactly what Modano did....but will the NHL punish the golden boy...I doubt it....Colin Campbell is a JOKE!!!!!!

I try so hard...
I try really hard to be supportive of my boys and ya know what...it's time to call them out. The past 2 games Norrena has stood on his head for these guys. And, well we just haven't gotten the offense. The goalies job is to give the other players a chance to win. There is no reason why we can't score 3 or 4 goals in a night. People need to stand up and it's like Hitch always says "Our best players need to be our best players" and quite frankly they haven't done it. Vyborny, Nash, Modin, and Fedorov need to step it up. I don't have such a problem with Fedorov because to be honest he is playing really well. Last night against Dallas he was hitting, getting rough with guys, and was taking some hits. Then tonight against Nashville he was playing on the blue line...and he did an amazing job. But, Nash, and Vyborny need to step it up. Modin...from what the announcers have told us has been injured and playing on a hurt food or ankle or something. Anyway, I'm just really disappointed in my team...but I still love them. And, just to be clear...I am in NO WAY talking smack about the goalie, Fredrik Norrena!
And, some idiot wore a Leafs jersey to the game...a Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets game...way to be skill.
AND, look at this video...there is a quote that Tootoo says he's not a dirty player...what a joke.

So close yet so far..
So Ken Hitchcock coached his 800th NHL game tonight. I just can’t even express how happy I am to have this man as the Blue Jackets coach. Next year is our year I’m just sure of it. The first period Adam Foote and Jordin Tootoo had a bit of a tussle. But, Foote being a very large and strong man was able to simply pin Tootoo against the boards. Nashville ended up getting a goal on the power play. Paul Kariya scored on the power play. Ty Conklin is in net for the Jackets. Everyone is pretty aware that I love Ty Conklin. He is a good goal tender and I think he deserves to stay up. Anyway, Foote took another penalty a roughing penalty…but I’m pretty sure that Erat just kind of fell and Foote didn’t do anything. I like what Adam Foote said during the intermission interview…he said Nashville likes to win games in the first 10 minutes of a game, that’s totally true. I have seen these guys play I can’t even tell you how many times and they like making an impression. But then Foote said, “We played better than they did in the first period, and they had more power play opportunities.” I’m so happy he’s our captain…what would I do without him. Marc Methot is playing his first NHL game. He seems to be doing a pretty good job…and he’s a cute little guy. I am hoping the reason he is up is because Berard will be out.
Going into the second period we were down 1-0. But entering the second we were on a power play. We ended up scoring a power play goal to make it 1-1. Modin got the goal. Dumont got the go ahead goal about a minute after we scored the tiebreaker. Let’s hope that Columbus gets things back on track. Well Fiddler just made it 3-1. I think Johnson is having a bad night because both of these goals can be blamed on him…well I don’t want to say blamed but he could have cleared the zone. Nash really is becoming a great two-way player. Last night he got his first short-handed goal, which is pretty impressive. Dan Fritsche got hurt he has a lacerated wrist they didn’t announce the severity of it but he won’t be back for the rest of the game.
Going into this period we are 3-1…lets hope the Jackets can get something going. And we got a goal from an unlikely source. Shelley got his first goal of the season!! I’m so proud. Our rough and tough guy got it. Lets just hope we can get another one. Tootoo just hit the crap out of Zherdev. I hate Tootoo he pisses me off every single time he steps out on the ice. He is such a dirty player and he claims he’s not. I would love to know where he heard that one. Let’s hope the Jackets can get this going and beat the Preds because it’s something we have yet to do. And Hainsey ties it up it’s now 3 all. It’s starting to look up for the Jackets. We really are a good hockey team. I love these guys…I know our playoff hopes are shot but we still are playing pretty well. I just hope that we can get a regulation win against these Preds. Brule had a great shot on goal heading down right at the net. Raced down even got tripped up a bit and took a shot when he was mid air.
And we are heading into over time. We do pretty well on 4-4 I think. So let’s see how we do. Well we out played them pretty much the entire game and that didn’t change during over time. It was still tied so we’re going into a shootout. I hate shootouts…they make me so nervous. I hope Conks stays with it. Well we lost in a shootout and I am sad. We deserved the win…and I’m not just saying that. Oh and random fact Tootoo took a number at the end of the game. How funny is that?! What a punk.

Forsberg vs. The Red Wings
So, Forsberg finally got his first point...well actually his first TWO points...yeah that's right Mr. Forsberg had an assist...and the GAME WINNING goal in over time. I only got to watch the 3rd period and over time and the occasional flip between channels to see what was going on. The first time I did my random flip I saw Chelios elbow Tootoo...and Mr. Tootoo for sure didn't forget about that elbow...because throughout the game these two had it out for each other. Whether it was Tootoo slashing Chelios or Chelios talkin smack to Tootoo on the bench. This game was for sure a playoff atmosphere. Uhm...randomly Forsberg looks really goofy in the Preds uniform. Anyway...it was a great game...and I got to see Osgood play...so that was exciting. Anyway don't really have too much else to say about this one. Final score was 4-3 Preds in OT.

I hate Tootoo....
This picture makes me happy...so I guess that's good. I'm watching the final minutes of the Blue Jackets Preds games....and I am sad...I just hope that they score so we don't get shut out but Mason is hot right now...and basically Conklin doesn't have enough experience :( I still love my team...anyway that's all I really have to say today. Oh and I love Jody Shelley...he is so funny to watch.
