Thanks to Kukla for point this out.
I know this sounds great but, it seems that ESPN would be replacing NBC not Versus. I'm not really sure how I feel about that. I mean EVERYBODY gets NBC. I don't know. It'd be nice to be on a legitimate sports channel I suppose. Anyone have any thoughts? The NHL and ESPN are in discussions about bringing the league’s games back to ESPN2 as soon as the 2008-09 season.
Multiple sources described the conversations as preliminary. The two started talking the week of July 16 when the NHL approached ESPN about NBC’s nine-game regular-season schedule, plus the playoffs. NBC holds the rights to air the coming season as part of a revenue-sharing agreement, and the network holds a one-year option for the 2008-09 season.

Yes, I have a thought. Unless ESPN goes all in, I'd say screw them the way they screwed the NHL. If they can go the distance in Canada as part-owners of TSN, they can do the same in the US.
Hell, cherry-pick the TSN telecast!
You know, I am actually fine with it because sports fans watch ESPN, and we need to pick up more peripheral fans.
I think there are positives and negatives for both NBC and ESPN2, but I'm not sure ones better than the other. Seems like on one hand we should say F-U to ESPN, but like Shmee said, we might as well air hockey games on a sports network. Does anyone know how widely broadcast ESPN2 is? I'm sure it's way higher than VS but not as high as NBC.
No no no... I hope they never get back there, ESPN is bad for the sports they have.
Teebz and Jibble: I think I'm with you guys. ESPN isn't really that great and NBC is in EVERY house...but, we would get the exposure on Sports Center which would be nice.
Shmee: I would be fine if it would go all in...but just the game of the week like NBC...I'm not ok with that.
KMS2: I'd like to see the numbers of how many people get ESPN2 as opposed to VS maybe I should look that up when I'm feeling more motivated.
