The Dispatch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Jan Hejda. I am still waiting for official word from the organization but apparently it was a one year $1 million dollar contract. Hope he's worth it. Oh well, it's just for a year.
In 39 games with the Edmonton Oilers, Hejda had one goal, eight assists and a minus-6 rating, drawing 20 minutes, 23 seconds per game.
Hejda throws out thunderous body checks and is said to enjoy physical games. He missed the last six weeks of the season because of a dislocated left shoulder.
Hejda, 6-3, 210 pounds, was a fourth-round pick (No. 106) of the Sabres in 2003. He was traded to the Oilers last summer, when Howson was Edmonton's assistant general manager.
It does make me feel better that Howson knows him from Edmonton...so let's think happy thoughts!!
