I know that I haven't posted a lot since I got back from the Draft but man it was quite the weekend. Probably one of the most interesting weekends hockey wise ever. Anyway, I want to put up everything that happened this weekend so it might be quite the post.
I'll start with the Dispatch reporting Bob Murray's real reason for not becoming the Columbus Blue Jackets second General Manager. He told the Dispatch,
It was not easy for me, not at all, I had a sick feeling in my stomach, to be honest with you, because this is a (heck) of a city here, Columbus. This is a great market, a great building, great fans. But it didn't feel right to me, not right at this time. I really want to be a general manager again in the NHL, but this one just didn't feel right.
So for all the people who were saying he didn't want to be here because of Hitch, or because we were going to make him keep the same front office, you were wrong. Also, this weekend they revealed the new uniforms. I really am a fan of these. They had Jody Shelley and Dan Fritsche showing them off. They look really good. At first I really wasn't a fan of these new uniforms but seeing them with the Blue Jackets logo and seeing our guys wearing them...I absolutely love them. Good job.
The obvious good news of the weekend is that the Columbus Blue Jackets drafted Jakub Voracek. Who played last year in the QMJHL for the Halifax Mooseheads. He played in 59 games and had 23 goals and 63 assists for 86 points. He has a right wing and I think he will fit quite nicely on our top line...eventually. I think we made the best choice although I won't lie I was kind of hoping for Alexei Cherepanov but, Voracek will fit in perfectly with the Jackets.
I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of the hockey fans in Columbus. People say we're not a hockey market but we certainly proved them wrong. The owner of the Columbus Blue Jackets got a huge standing ovation, the cheers of 'Lets Go Jackets' started as soon as they announced our first selection. Mr. Howson got a great round of applause as he made the first selection of his career...and as a Blue Jacket :)
Also, the Jackets drafted Stefan Legein (37th overall) another right wing from the OHL. He models his game after Darcy Tucker...but I suppose I can forgive him for that. In 64 games played he had 43 goals and 32 assists (75 points) with 115 penalty minutes. Will Weber was drafted by the Jackets (53rd overall), Jake Hansen was chosen 68th overall, Maxim Mayorov was chosen 94th overall, Allen York 158th overall, and then we chose Trent Vogelhuber 211th overall, the very last pick of the 2007 NHL Draft.

I like the new unis!
Hope you had a good time - how was the crazy blogger get together?
I was very impressed with the number of fans there, way to go Columbus!
I just keep having this funny image in my head of Voracek standing next to Rick Nash -- Nash will have his usual slacker scruff going on and next to him will be Voracek, who I dont think can shave yet.
Shaving or not, Voracek is a great pick.
