Help Kaleb

Kristy, Kaleb & Josh Schwade

For any of you who haven't heard of them, this is a condensed version of the story --

On May 9th, 2007, 5 mo. old Kaleb was picked up at his daycare by his grandmother and aunt. They noticed he was acting a little strange but it was brushed off by the babysitter, saying that he was simply ill. When Kristy arrived at her mother's house to pick up her son, describing him as "having no life in his body", she and her father quickly took action and drove Kaleb to the nearest fire station. An ambulance took over from there and rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was classified as a trauma alert and airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. Kaleb was immediately admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit where he was diagnosed as having Shaken Baby Syndrome, it was also discovered that Kaleb had been smothered.

The woman doing home care has been arrested and charges were brought against her, but as with our justice system, she has been released on $5,000 bail.

Wow.

So I've been receiving these bulletins over Myspace with the headlines, "Pray For Kaleb" and "Update From Kaleb's Mommy" and not knowing who Kaleb was (and having that annoying young person mentality of being too busy to care) I ignored the bulletins. This morning, however, I received an email from a friend telling me to check out this website where they were trying to get the word out about baby Kaleb. Being that I had heard this name so many times, I decided to check out what it was all about. After reading the story, I couldn't (in good conscience) turn my back on the whole thing.

I don't have much of an influence out in the big bad world but here, in the blogger world, I have a few people who listen to me and take my ramblings to heart. Let's hope that this story, one that actually means something, will be given a second glance by those of you, like myself, who find themselves just not having the time.
